Welcome to 2010! I am always excited as the new year unfolds, and so far, 2010 is off to a great start.
Do you make New Year Resolutions? If so, I would love to hear about them. If not, I would love to hear why not!
I have some standing resolutions that I remind myself of at the beginning of each new year. I resolve to be a better person and to do my part to make the world a better place. This year I am also going to try to banish the clutter once and for all. Between running a household and running a business, I find that "stuff" piles up quite easily. I need to stay organized so I can keep track of my orders, supplies, etc. Thus far I have managed to stay organized without necessarily being tidy. If I can be organized AND tidy I will consider it a success! Finally, I resolve to eat less and move more. I have been struggling with my weight since the birth of my second child - I will talk more about my journey in my next post - and when I saw that my friend Amy resolved to eat less and move more, something in me clicked. I have been putting too much pressure on myself to do too much at once. If I take a more relaxed approach I am hoping it will all fall into place.
Those are my plans, let's hear about your plans for 2010.
Yesterday afternoon my 4 year old daughter asked what a snow globe was. I realized I had one tucked away so I dug it out of the garage and produced the most magical thing my children had ever seen. It has a snowman inside it as well as a picture of my daughter at 2 years old and a wind-up music box. My children were fascinated with it and I sat and watched them in awe of their wonder and excitement that something so simple produced. Sometimes it is nice to take a step back and appreciate the smaller things in life and know that you can find magic in the most unexpected places if you just remember to look.

I don't have anything profound to say about this picture, I just love it. So many great elements at work here. This was taken at my paternal grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary in 1978. My maternal grandparents are the other lovely people in this picture and I love the fact that they attended the anniversary celebration.
Tip your glass to everlasting love, family celebrations and people that are greatly loved and dearly missed.

My children love looking at photos of me as a child. I don't know why exactly, perhaps they are trying to glimpse into my childhood which is a world unknown to them. As we were looking through the album I stumbled on this photo which is one of my all time favorites. There are so many great things about it, the clothes, the cool-aid stains, the expression on my dad's face...but what I truly love about it is the pure joy visible on my mom's face. I hope that photos of me with my children capture that same joy.
My mom and my husband have been my biggest supporters (but more about hubby another time) and for that I am eternally grateful. My friends, family and even my children have been fabulous as I have embarked on this adventure that is creating art and running my own business. My mom has been behind me every step of the way, gently pushing me along but always supportive. She also just gave me the most wonderful and unexpected gift...my first "real" camera. Photography has always been a passion of mine and now I can capture my children as they grow. I also hope to turn out some fabulous jewelry pictures and see what else there is to discover behind the lens.
Mom, thank you for the camera, for the support and for bringing joy into all of our lives...and you have to tell me where I can get a shirt like that.
My husband mentioned that his friend had written a book entitled Mr. Lincoln Was a Robot: Or Why I Left Home by Victor Langlois. I love to read and I was not about to pass up a book written by someone we actually know, so I headed straight to Amazon to check it out. The teaser pages were interesting and we ordered the book. I had to wait patiently while my husband read it first but I finally got my hands on it and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I kept wondering if it was the personal connection to the author that generated such an interest for me, but the book really resonated with me. It is a coming of age story detailing one man's journey through the treacherous adolescent years and his brave and determined pursuit of his dream. This is Victor's first published book. Give it a read and support a new author and lets all hope the sequel comes out soon because I need to know what happened next!
